The departments of Interfaculty General Physics established in 1969, Method and History of Physics Teaching established in 1976, and Department of Atmospheric Physics established in 1955 were united in 2005 and named the Department of General Physics, Teaching Method of Physics and Atmospheric Physics, and since 2011 General Physics is held as the department.
The Department of Physics has been operating since the day the university was founded. Well-known scientists N.N. Zlatovratsky, A.E. Levashev, N.V. Krimenevsky, L.N. Dobretsov made a great contribution to the development of the work of the department.
In 1936, the Department of Experimental Physics was established under the Department of Physics. Between 1936 and 1965, the Department of Experimental Physics was headed by famous scientists S.V.Starodubtsev, J.N.Shuppe, S.U.Umarov, I.I.Islomov and I. Andreev. Assoc. R.K. Karimov managed the Department of Experimental Physics during 1965-1969. He took great initiative in updating the teaching laboratory equipment of the department, improving scientific works and setting up new laboratory works.
In 1969, the Department of Experimental Physics was divided into two: the Department of Experimental Physics for students of the Faculty of Physics and the Department of General Physics for students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
During 1969-1989, the Department of Experimental Physics was headed by Assoc. U.V. Azizov, and in 1989-1995, prof. It was directed by I. Boriboev. In 1976-2004, the chair of physics teaching style and history was headed by prof. It was managed by E.N.Nazirov.
During 1969-1991, the Interfaculty general physics department was run by the distinguished scientist in the field of physics and chemistry of solid bodies prof. It was directed by M.A. Marupov. Prof. M.A. Marupov’s services in improving the teaching of physics in universities and scientific schools in general deserve special attention. From 1991 to 2012, professor U. Abdurahmanov was the head of the department. In 2012, the department was headed by professor A.V. Umarov. Since 2013, associate professor D.A. Begmatova has been managing this department.
